Each day a trout consumes six times its body weight in water, so the quality of the water makes a real difference. Trout thrive with a consistent water temperature and a good flow of crystal clear water. We are very lucky at Mere having two fast flowing chalk streams running through the farm. They are just the right distance from the springs, close enough so that they are still at a consistently low temperature but far enough for the water to be fully aerated by the time it gets to the farm.
Our naturally filtered drinking water quality borehole is used for the eggs and tiny trout in the hatchery.
