That overall quality of life is another large factor in why Mere Trout’s Rainbow Trout tastes as good as it does – we rear our fish in clear, pure chalkstream water. If you’ve ever had a mouthful of intensively farmed trout raised in dense, dirty water, you’ll know the unpalatable muddy undertone that spoils the taste of the fish. Our trout are able to swim freely, pumping clear chalk stream water over their gills, ensuring they remain clean and delicious.
We don’t focus on yield; we focus on each and every Rainbow Trout for sale at our farm shop being the highest possible quality it can be. To achieve this, we accept a slower pace of growth, keeping it as natural as possible – with a purposely relaxed attitude towards the rigours and the timetables of intensive farming. We give our trout the time and space they need to grow, with lower stocking densities and no overfeeding. We make full use of the exceptionally clean chalkstream water that flows through the farm, fresh and cool from the aquifer.
That means when you buy Rainbow Trout from our farm shop you’re making a purchase that comes with complete peace of mind – we’ve put the effort in to ensure it’s going to be delicious, all you need to do is take it home and prepare it the way you like. When you purchase fish from our farm shop, it’s fresh as if you just caught it yourself.
We would be happy to discuss with you at length our Rainbow Trout rearing process and approach, but the only real way you’ll appreciate is actually to taste the results.
At Mere Trout we put quality above all else. A considerate and balanced approach to farming leaves our trout tasting fresh and delicious. The unhurried approach that we take to rearing our trout leaves results you can clearly taste in every single bite.
